The Kenwood Lady Indians State Champion Softball Team was recognized by the Cherokee Council during their January meeting on the 12th. We would like to thank Council Members Hughes and Shotpouch for their continued support. We would also like to thank the Council and Chief Hoskin for the opportunity to be in front of the Council, it was a wonderful opportunity for our students.
The Lady Indians were honored for their efforts in winning the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools D3 State Championship in softball for 2025/26. Their record for the season was 28-1. They are coached by Doo Foreman and Stephanie Campbell. "We are extremely grateful for all that the Cherokee Nation has done for us and continues to do. We have a state of the art facility to play softball in and in just two years of doing so, we are State Champions. You can see the same success in Basketball, with the commitment to the community with the addition of the Woody Hair gymnasium we are also State Champions in basketball. We have wonderful students and athletes here obviously, but we are very grateful and blessed to have these facilities for our kids to play in." Foreman said.

Our Christmas Program was a major success and we appreciate everyone that came out to support our students! We have the best community a school could ask for! We are truly blessed!

The 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will have practice over the Christmas Break on the 29th, 30th and 31st from 10am-noon in the Woody Hair Community gym. The practices will be combined with both boys and girls. The girls 7th and 8th grade team will travel to Claremore Sequoyah for a scrimmage at 10am on the 30th. The bus will leave from the school at 8:30am on the 30th. We are working to schedule a home scrimmage on the 30th for the boys, but will continue with practice as listed regardless.

Our 7th and 8th grade basketball games with Jenks on Monday the 15th have been moved up an hour to 5pm. Please be advised that our schedules are subject to changes as stated. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. The two games will be play in the Frank Herald Fieldhouse on the campus of Jenks Public School in South Tulsa. ORES passes WILL be accepted.

Rob Daugherty, Oakhill resident, has always collected baseball cards, beginning as a young child. Now, he has taken it to another level. He immersed himself in research to learn more about the first 28 Native American baseball players to play in the Major League, 50 years before Mr. Jackie Robinson. His book,
"Native American Major Leaguers"

We are extremely proud of all of our former students who are doing amazing things. This week we would like to express how proud we are of Josiah Sapp and Crayton Sapp, they will be playing in the Second Round of the High School Football Playoffs this Friday when Tahlequah Sequoyah travels to Jones at 7pm. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Student Athletes last night. We continue to have some of the largest crowds we have seen in recent years. This speaks to the hard work by all of our students. We would also like to thank our neighbors from Salina for coming to Kenwood last night. We truly appreciate you visiting Kenwood!

We will have basketball practice for the 5th-8th Boys and Girls over the Thanksgiving Break on Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th at 10 am. This will be a combined practice and will end at noon. We will practice in the Woody Hair Community Gym.

Tomorrow after school will be our second and final food distribution for a 3rd meal for each child. We will follow the same procedure as the first time.
